The It Ends With Us co-stars are now almost certainly going to trial, as attempts to reach a deal have proven “unsuccessful,” Baldoni’s lawyer Bryan Freedman said today.

Speaking outside the Manhattan courthouse as the first – and maybe last – day of a settlement conference between the parties concluded, Freedman was asked if a jury trial was back at the top of the agenda, to which he exclaimed he was “looking forward to it”.

Both Lively and Wayfarer Studios co-founder Baldoni exited the courthouse around 1 pm on Wednesday local time after a closed-door session with their respective legal teams.

This was the first occasion they have been in the same court at the same time since the Glee actor filed her $550 million (£404 million) suit against her co-star director.

Besides claims that Baldoni repeatedly harassed her on the It Ends With Us set, Lively also alleges Baldoni had a vicious online smear campaign orchestrated against her in mid-2024. Lively’s accusation is that Baldoni brought together a crisis PR crew to sully her reputation before the premiere of the hit movie.

In January, a mass document unsealing revealed a multitude of emails over the matter. Among the more dramatic discoveries were a Sony exec calling Lively “a terrorist” over threats to quit the film, and co-star Jenny Slate calling Baldoni “the biggest clown and the most intense narcissist”.

The TV star’s wife, Kimberly, shared on Wednesday in an Instagram post that her husband had died after a battle with colorectal cancer.

Mary-Margaret Humes, who played Van Der Beek’s mother on the show, shared an Instagram tribute in honour of her late co-star on Wednesday.

“Rarely am I at a loss for words … today would be the exception. James, my gracious warrior, you fought a hard battle against all odds with such quiet strength and dignity,” she wrote alongside two photos of them together.

“I will always love and admire you for that. Our last conversations … merely a few days ago … are forever sitting softly in my heart for safekeeping. To our extended Dawson’s Creek family of friends, please be respectful of our silences at the moment as Beautiful Kimberly and family have asked for peaceful privacy for now.”

Kerr Smith who played the role of Jack McPhee on Dawson’s Creek, penned simply, “I’m so grateful for being able to call James a brother. I’ll miss him deeply. Rest easy.”

Chad Michael Murray, who portrayed Charlie Todd for 12 episodes, commented, “Sending love and light to your beautiful family. James was a giant. We’re so so so sorry for what you’re going through. His words, art and humanity inspired all of us – he inspired us to be better in all ways. God bless you guys.”

Busy Philipps, who played Audrey Liddell, shared throwback photos from their time on set together.

“My heart is deeply hurting for all of us today,” she wrote. “But I am profoundly heartbroken for his incredible wife Kimberly and their six magical children.”

Other stars to pass on their condolences included Buffy the Vampire Slayer’s Sarah Michelle Gellar: “While James’ legacy will always live on, this is a huge loss to not just your family but the world. F**k Cancer.”

Jennifer Garner said, “What a heartbreaking loss. So much love to you, Kimberly, and to your kids, as you navigate this tender time.”

“James had a kind, generous, thoughtful, and beautiful soul. There is no doubt those traits will live on through his wife and gorgeous children. Rest in peace, man,” wrote Modern Family star Eric Stonestreet.

Van Der Beek revealed that he had been diagnosed with colorectal cancer in November 2024.

The One Direction alum opened up about his past relationship with the model, with whom he shares his five-year-old daughter, Khai.

During an appearance on Wednesday’s episode of Call Her Daddy, Zayn explained that while he and Gigi dated on-and-off for five years, he now questions whether his feelings at the time amounted to love.

“To be fair, just to have this on the record, I will always love G, because she is the reason my child is on this Earth and I have the utmost respect for her,” he told host Alex Cooper. “I will always love her, but I don’t know if I was in love with her.”

The singer, who also previously dated Little Mix star Perrie Edwards, admitted that being single has been “freeing”.

“No disrespect to all the past relationships I’ve been in,” he stated. “No disrespect at all, it was freeing. I am that type of person who runs on my own clock, answers to myself. So, it was so freeing to me. I could just do things, make plans. Sleep until any time I want.”

In November 2024, the Dawson’s Creek actor revealed he had been diagnosed with colorectal cancer around a year earlier and was “taking steps to resolve it”.

But in a statement issued via Instagram on Wednesday, a spokesperson announced that Van Der Beek had “passed peacefully”. He was 48.

“Our beloved James David Van Der Beek passed peacefully this morning. He met his final days with courage, faith, and grace,” they wrote. “There is much to share regarding his wishes, love for humanity, and the sacredness of time. Those days will come.”

The representative went on to ask that fans grant the Van Der Beek family privacy at this sad time.

“For now, we ask for peaceful privacy as we grieve our loving husband, father, son, brother, and friend,” they added.

Last September, fans expressed concern for the Varsity Blues star after he appeared gaunt during a pre-recorded message shown as part of a Dawson’s Creek reunion event.

Three months later, Van Der Beek insisted his weight loss was caused by the stomach virus rather than a result of his cancer.

“It’s required more of me – more patience, more discipline,” he admitted during an appearance on the Today show of his fight against the disease. “More strength than I knew I had. I knew I was strong, I didn’t know I was this strong.”

Van Der Beek rose to fame in the late ’90s for his portrayal of Dawson Leery on teen drama Dawson’s Creek. The popular TV series ran from 1998 until 2003.

The actor was also known for his performances in films such as 1998’s Varsity Blues, 2001’s Texas Rangers, and 2013’s Labor Day.

His last screen role is as Dean Wilson in the upcoming Legally Blonde prequel TV series, Elle.

Van Der Beek married his wife, Kimberly Van Der Beek, in 2010. The couple went on to have six children.

After months of speculation, the famed producer confirmed to BBC News at the Oscars nominees luncheon on Tuesday that a follow-up is officially happening.

“We’re working on a sequel,” he shared, although he declined to give a timeline for the sequel or confirm which cast members would return for the follow-up.

The first film, directed by Joseph Kosinski, starred Brad Pitt as veteran driver Sonny Hayes, who returns to Formula 1 to help out the fictional team APXGP and support their rookie driver Joshua Pearce (Damson Idris).

The film was a huge box office success last year, grossing $630 million (£467 million) worldwide, making it the biggest sports movie of all time, Pitt’s highest-grossing feature and Apple Original Films’ top-grossing theatrical release to date.

The sports action movie was also nominated for four Academy Awards, including Best Picture, last month.

Bruckheimer, who is known for producing the Top Gun, Bad Boys and Pirates of the Caribbean franchises, admitted to the outlet that he was “surprised” and delighted by the film’s awards recognition.

“It was a long journey to get the movie made because we had to endure a couple of strikes – but in the end, the movie entertained audiences around the world,” he added. “I never worked with Brad Pitt before and it’s really a thrill to work with Brad.”

An F1 sequel has long been rumoured since the film’s release in June 2025. Many expected the news to be confirmed at Apple TV’s press day last week, however, Formula 1 CEO Stefano Domenicali simply told the audience to “stay tuned”.

“We’re going to tell you something more in the future,” he said during a discussion with Apple executive Eddy Cue. “We need to digest the success of this movie. If you want to think of a new one, it has to be very good.”

A day before the game, the Hotline Bling hitmaker shared proof of the bet on Instagram, posting an image of the slip alongside the caption, “Bet against me if you dare.”

He also disclosed that a Patriots victory would have seen him more than double his money, with estimated winnings of $2.95 million (£2.18 million).

Following the post, fans flooded the comments section with jokes about the alleged “Drake curse”, suggesting that teams he supports are destined to lose.
