Our friend Bryan from Paula’s Choice shares his great skin tips:
Best Beauty Tips of All Time
- Be gentle with your skin! Irritation and the inflammation it causes silently chips away at skin’s resiliency and healthiness.
- Use a water-soluble facial cleanser, never soap, to wash your face. Soap disturbs skin’s naturally acidic pH and strips skin’s vital moisture and oil. Prefer cream, oil, or balm cleansers? Apply to DRY skin, massage in, THEN rinse with water.
- Scrubs do not and cannot replace the remarkable results possible from a leave-on, acid-based exfoliant. They are game-changes for bumpy texture, uneven tone, large pores, breakouts, and so much more.
- A broad-spectrum sunscreen applied daily is foundational to great skin care. If you’re not willing to protect your skin from the cumulative damage UV light causes, nothing else you do to take care of your skin will be as helpful as it could be.
- There isn’t a single “best” ingredient, whether it’s a retinoid, vitamin C, peptide, or exotic plant extract. The cosmetics industry is chockful of brilliant ingredients for skin. Sticking with just one or two is akin to only eating the same two foods daily and expecting to remain healthy.
- Don’t wait until you see signs of aging to use a retinoid or other bio-active ingredients. Get in front of concerns by using these products sooner vs. later, and your skin will look better, longer.
- Use a brush to apply concealer underneath eyes or, if you prefer to dab and blend with your fingertip, use the brush afterward to ensure concealer hasn’t collected in the fine lines and wrinkles underneath the eyes.
- The secret to a gorgeous makeup application is contouring and highlighting. Mastering these techniques to sculpt your face makes a dramatic difference—and neither blush nor bronzer count as contour!
- Keeping your body hydrated matters for your skin but it does not need to entail drinking gallons of water per day. All this really does is have you visiting the bathroom more often! Eating a diet rich in fruits, vegetables, omega fatty acids and lean proteins will do wonders for your skin, and you can keep your water consumption moderate.
- Mascara isn’t just for enhancing your eyelashes, it’s also for enhancing your eye shape! Experiment with various applications to find what works best for your eye shape—do this instead of applying the same amount of mascara across your entire lash line. Example: eyes will look more elongated if you concentrate mascara on the outer third of lashes.
