Simu Liu has pitched his co-star Melissa Barrera to be the next Wonder Woman.

The Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings star observed that the Scream actress had “Wonder Woman-esque” qualities while filming their spy thriller series The Copenhagen Test.

In a recent interview with JoBlo, Liu called on DC Studios boss James Gunn to consider Barrera for the next iteration of Wonder Woman after Gal Gadot.

“She really pushes herself,” he said. “I don’t know who might be listening to this interview, James Gunn or anybody else out there. But I think she really pushes herself. There were a couple of moments during stunt training where I was like, ‘That’s Wonder Woman-esque.’ I’m just throwing it out there.”

Gadot made her debut as Diana Prince/Wonder Woman in 2016’s Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice before starring in two Wonder Woman films and Justice League and making cameo appearances in 2023’s Shazam! Fury of the Gods and The Flash. Plans of a third Wonder Woman film were nixed after Gunn and Peter Safran took over DC Studios in late 2022.

In June last year, Gunn confirmed that a new Wonder Woman movie was “being written right now” and that he had not yet cast the lead character, implying that Gadot’s time as the superheroine had come to an end.

The script is being written by Ana Nogueira, who penned the upcoming Supergirl movie.

Gunn has previously touted Hit Man actress Adria Arjona as Wonder Woman, telling Extra, “I follow Adria on Instagram, but everybody came out (and thought), ‘He just followed her, that means she’s Wonder Woman.’ She’d be a great Wonder Woman, by the way.”
